PRACTICAL PROJECT GUIDE

Asbestos baseboard removal before a house is moved.

Older houses can have asbestos-cement sheets enclosing the subfloor. If a house is being lifted or transported, those baseboards may need controlled removal before the house movers begin.

START WITH EVIDENCE

Confirm the material and the moving scope.

A survey or laboratory result should identify which baseboards contain asbestos. PropertyHelp then reviews sheet condition, access below decks or steps, services, neighbouring boundaries and what the house mover needs removed.

A PRACTICAL SEQUENCE

Four steps before lifting day.

01

Confirm

Match the asbestos result to the baseboards and agree the exact removal boundary.

02

Coordinate

Set dates and access requirements with the owner, house mover and other contractors.

03

Remove

Isolate the area and remove bonded sheets using planned Class B controls.

04

Complete

Clean the area, dispose of asbestos waste lawfully and supply completion records.

AVOID PROGRAMME DELAYS

Do not leave asbestos decisions until moving day.

Hidden sheets, restricted access or unconfirmed materials can stop work. Build survey, removal and any required clearance time into the programme before cranes, trucks and house movers are booked.

  • Do not cut, drill or break suspected baseboards
  • Agree who removes decks, steps or non-asbestos obstructions
  • Confirm whether an independent clearance is required
  • Keep removal records with the property project file
