FLOORING REMOVAL

Asbestos Vinyl Removal NZ

Older vinyl tiles, sheet flooring, backing and adhesives can contain asbestos. The correct removal approach depends on which layer contains asbestos and whether that material can be kept non-friable. In some projects, PropertyHelp can remove the flooring together with the underlying substrate as an intact section, avoiding aggressive scraping or grinding. The asbestos survey and the proposed method must be reviewed before the work is classified and quoted.

WHAT WE CAN ASSESS

Removal planned around the property.

Every asbestos project needs a scope based on the identified material, its condition and the work that will disturb it. PropertyHelp reviews the available survey information and confirms whether the proposed work is suitable for a Class B removal method.

OUR APPROACH

A controlled process from planning to disposal.

01

Review the laboratory result

We identify which flooring layer tested positive and examine the construction beneath it before selecting a method.

02

Define the work area

Access is restricted and the plan addresses isolation, services, floor penetrations, dust control, decontamination and waste movement.

03

Use the agreed method

Material is removed using controlled techniques intended to avoid sanding, grinding or unnecessarily separating asbestos-containing layers.

04

Clean and document

The work area is cleaned, waste is securely packaged and any required independent clearance is coordinated.

SITE-SPECIFIC DETAILS

What can affect the job.

Access, material condition, height, neighbouring properties and other trades can change the controls and programme. We identify these issues before work starts and explain what is included in the quotation.

  • Vinyl appearance alone cannot confirm asbestos
  • Removing flooring from its backing can change the risk and work classification
  • Wet areas may have damaged substrate or concealed layers
  • The replacement floor and reinstatement are normally completed by another trade

COMMON QUESTIONS

Helpful answers before you begin.

Can asbestos vinyl be pulled up like normal flooring?

It should not be treated as ordinary flooring. Pulling, sanding or scraping can damage asbestos-containing layers and release fibres.

Why might the floor substrate be removed too?

Removing a suitable substrate and attached flooring together can help keep the asbestos-containing product intact and avoid aggressive separation.

Do I need testing first?

If the flooring is not already identified in a reliable survey, testing is generally the sensible first step before renovation or removal.

Important: Do not drill, sand, cut, scrape or break suspected asbestos. If material is damaged, keep people away and seek competent advice.
